AMBIENT SESSIONS 41 - S. SALTER

 


Our new session is here, a 1hr mix put together by Sam of S. Salter, this set weaves its way through a world of gentle ambience - from musical inspirations to unreleased new tracks. A collection of various ambient sounds that gently meld together, this mix offers a seamless hour of musical bliss.

Using a blend of intricate piano compositions, poised production elements, and carefully placed field recordings, S. Salter tells the listener a story of nostalgia. A project by Amsterdam-based British artist Samuel Ruddick and Berlin-based Swiss artist Jeremia Reichen, the tracks evoke a longing for 'home' whilst in the midst of solitude and a search for the familiar.

Compositions from debut album Juun are heavily influenced by Samuel’s native South West of England, and are completed by Jeremia’s distinct sound design and production techniques. Live strings on several tracks are written and performed by long-time collaborator Alistair Sterling. All visuals are by designer Kerry Williams.

S. Salter appeared on the official 'Piano Day 2023' record, created by and Leiter Verlag. Their full AV live show 'A Walk With... S. Salter', a collaboration with visual artists Sam McCormick and Seb Price, premiered in early 2023 in Amsterdam.

  We have a new session, mixed and recorded live by Paranoid . Paranoid has been a journalist specializing in electronic music for more than a decade, writing for Cyclic Defrost (Australia) and Buenos Aliens (Latin America), and sporadically for a few others. He directed the Egg Music Box project with which he had a weekly radio show on BArcelonaCityFM. He also had the Rejected Ambient Works show on RadioREA. His musical selections range from IDM, Experimental, Ambient, Downtempo to shades of other genres. He has had radio shows in Ibiza, México and Argentina, among others. Paranoid also produces and edits his own tracks, it has been published by the Kahvi Collective label from Finland, Tingo Tongo Tapes from California and Guerrilla Tunes from Argentina in an edit to Lackluster. AMBIENT SESSIONS - in memoriam Mind Over MIDI

A few days ago we learned of the death of the Norwegian producer Helge Tømmervåg , better known as Mind over MIDI . No further information on the event has been given, however it is an irreparable loss for those of us who knew his incessant work. Undoubtedly, he is a major figure in terms of quality and electronic production, with dozens of releases over several decades, perhaps not properly appreciated as it should be, leaving a great musical legacy. Hailing from Kristiansund on the northwest coast of Norway, Helge Tømmervåg crafted electronic sounds since the early '80s. His earliest work recorded under the now-familiar Mind over MIDI moniker arrived in the early '90s. He released scores of highly regarded and stylistically uncompromising sounds over the years, appearing on labels including Silent Seasons, Diametric, Hibernate, Whitelabrecs, ROHS! DRONE DAY 2023

  Today is Drone Day and to celebrate it I gave myself the task of making an extended mix, a kind of massive drone. My idea was to choose tracks that are important to me, so its origins go back about 10 years ago, when I met and began to delve into Drone and Ambient Drone music. As someone who loves collecting music and making mixes, I always wanted to do something with those tracks that made me like and love this kind of music. The result was a selection of representative tracks from that time, and with a length a little longer than I expected, I really enjoyed delving into my archives and remembering the moments in which I was getting to know each of the artists, projects and producers and how these relate to my life at that time and in the present. I hope you can listen to it, complete or in fragments, but above all, enjoy it as much as I do and let yourself go, even for a moment. And happy Drone Day 2023.
